

Staete Landt 2010 ‘Annabel’ Sauvignon Blanc has an intensely aromatic classic nose with nectarines, tropical and citrus characters. In the mouth a soft velvety texture with abundant peaches and grapefruit flavours with chalky & slaty characters, rounding off in an elegant mineral finish.
This wine is drinking well from now onwards but will increase in complexity and reward cellaring for up to 5 years.

Staete Landt Chardonnay is a consistently highly rating and much loved wine. The wine shows perfect balance between fruit, acidity, minerality supported by a whiff of oak integration, just supurbly supplementing all the other flavours. On the nose there is a hint of salty sea breeze, summer stone fruit and citrus, once the wine hits your palate there is a sensation of white peaches and hazelnuts in the midpalate, finishing with a beautifully lingering minerality. The wine is well textured and will reward cellaring for up to 10 years. This is a truly great wine with a strong personality and European elegance with the unique cool climate signature of Rapaura, Marlborough.

2009 ‘Paladin’ Pinot Noir is a beautifully scented and well textured wine with a fragrance of ripe cherries and wild violets.. In the mouth the wine is weighty with green tea tannins, shows great length and beautiful balance between sweet ripe berry fruit and savoury characters and spices such as cloves, bay leaves and juniper berries. Barnyard characteristics and ‘leather saddle’ which will develop over time in the bottle.

The 2008 Pinot Noir is a beautiful round and well textured wine with a fragrance of ripe cherries, wild violets and ‘forrest floor on an early autumn day’. In the mouth the wine is weighty with black tea tannins, shows great length and beautiful balance between sweet ripe berrie fruit and more savoury characters such as ‘leather saddles’ and barnyard characteristics which will develop over time in the bottle.

This wine is a lovely example of the varietal. This Pinot Gris is full and round with ripe queen peaches, stewed pears in the mouth with a touch of toffees, cinnamon and spice. A grainy texture and soft nutty complexity showing notes of baked quinces and ripe pears. It has excellent length and weight. This wine is very approachable whilst young but will gain complexity over the next five years.

This wine offers classic Riesling characters of crisp green apples and meyers lemon/citrus zest with an early touch of kerosene on the nose. In the mouth this is followed by flavours of white peaches, mandarins and limes. It finishes with elegant mineral notes. Limey acidity contributes to the tight structure and fresh lingering finish.

This wine is delicately scented of pink grapefruit, heritage apples and guava fruit. The elegant nose gives way to a richly texured palate of baked apples, manuka honey and caramel characters; all evocative of Tarte Tatin. Lifted acidity balances the wine beautifully for a lingering fresh finish. The Riesling Auslese is attractive whilst young but will gain complexity and benefit from aging for up to 10 years.

A lovely intensely aromatic nose of sweet mandarins, lychees and a touch of spice. The palate this wine is luscious and broad with attractive flavours or orange peel / marmalade, candied violets and floral notes. It has a firm oily mouthfeel. Staete Landt Viognier combines aromatics and texture for an opulent and full bodied white wine.

This 2009 vintage Staete Landt Syrah expresses the unique terroir of the old stony riverbed site beautifully. The wine has an attractive nose of ripe black cherries and blackberries. On the palate this wine shows white pepper, dark ripe plums and bay leaf/liquorice characters. A well balanced, complex and sophisticated typical cool climate style Syrah, with excellent structure and elegant tannins. This wine is drinking very well now but will repay cellaring for at least three to five years.
